AHIMA Foundation Research Network (AFRN)
The AHIMA Foundation Research Network (AFRN) provides a systematic approach to advancing and completing research. The AFRN provides an infrastructure to enhance the Foundation's research effort by offering resources to add to the number of trained HIM researchers in the profession; by increasing the number of experienced leaders conducting evidence-based research; and, by providing a nationally recognized, peer-reviewed journal to publish relevant research and advance the HIM Body of Knowledge.
The AHIMA Foundation Research Network is established to:
- Promote the principles and values of the HIM profession to influence healthcare standards and practices in alignment the AHIMA strategic plan;
- Enhance the importance of research within the HIM profession, HIM educational community and AHIMA; and
- Add to the HIM Body of Knowledge.

Perceived Effects of ICD-10 Coding Productivity and Accuracy Among Coding Professionals
With the implementation of ICD-10, the number of diagnosis codes for healthcare services has increased from 13,000 to 68,000, and the number of procedure codes has also increased. While the new code set does allow for greater specificity of reporting diagnoses and care delivered, has the new code set resulted in additional costs? Findings from this study will provide valuable insight into the perceived impact of ICD-10 implementation on productivity and accuracy for coding professionals.
