Karen Grant is Corporate Director Health Information Services/Chief Privacy Officer for Partners HealthCare System, Inc., in Boston, MA, responsible for planning, implementation and management of inter-entity initiatives and functions in health information services which includes developing enterprise wide policies for the electronic health record and protection of patient information throughout an integrated delivery system which includes Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital and its affiliates. Functional responsibilities include organizing the Privacy effort, this effort oversees ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, Partners’ policies and procedures covering the privacy of, and access to, patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws. Grant served on AHIMA’s Council on Certification, Certification of Health Privacy Task Force and participated on numerous National as well as local work groups. She was the recipient of AHIMA's 1997 Outstanding Achievement Award. Prior to Partners, Karen managed the Health Information Services Department at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She also spent 5 years at Kaiser Foundation Hospital as the Director of Health Information Management - Utilization Management.
